Although
many are not aware of it, Greenville, SC, ranks 13th in the nation for
art galleries. We also have some wonderful museums that feature local
artists as well as national and international exhibits. No longer do
you have to go to New York or Chicago to have the opportunity to
experience wonderful art.

Museums:
Greenville County Museum of Art
The Greenville County Museum of Art offers its visitors a way to sample
the very best in American art through traveling exhibitions and
exhibitions drawn from its own collection. It also offers art classes,
evening programs, and information for teachers and school classes.
Greenville Metropolitan Arts Council
The Metropolitan Arts Council (MAC) is the only organization in
Greenville, South Carolina working daily to support every discipline of
the arts. MAC provides support to area arts organizations and many
individual artists through its grants program, through its cultural
planning process, by advocating on behalf of all artists and arts
groups, and by providing cooperative marketing opportunities promoting
arts groups that might not have resources available to them. The
organization also maintains a calendar of art events in the Greenville
area.
Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities
The Governor's School presents classes on creative writing, dance,
drama, music, and the visual arts, and hosts many performances and
concerts throughout the year.
Museum & Gallery at Bob Jones University
The Museum & Gallery at Bob Jones University, recognized as the
“largest collection of religious art in the Western
Hemisphere,” features works by major artists such as Rubens, van
Dyck, Reni, Tintoretto, Le Brun, Cranach, Ribera, and Murillo,
aesthetically exhibited with period furniture, sculpture, tapestries,
and porcelains.
Roper Mountain Science Center
Owned and operated by the School District of Greenville County, the
Science Center's primary purpose is to provide high quality enhancement
to the school district's classroom curriculum. Through its numerous
hands-on and attention-grabbing science programs available to
school-age children, the Science Center has earned a reputation
throughout the state of providing students with dynamic, entertaining
and thought-provoking science programs that, no doubt, are leading many
of today's students into future careers in science.
The Roper Mountain Science Center is located off I-385 at Exit 37
(Roper Mountain Road); cross over the Interstate bridge and the
entrance is the second road on the right.
16th SC Volunteers Museum of Confederate History
The 16th South Carolina Volunteers Museum of Confederate History boasts
a large and growing collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the
War Between the States. The collection includes firearms, photographs,
flags, edged weapons, currency, clothing, letters, newspapers, and
other items from military and home life.
