For nearly a thousand years, clansmen and chiefs have gathered to compete in one of the most rigorous competitions in the world, the Scottish Highland Games. The S.C.O.T.S. (Scottish Clans of the South, Inc.) invite you to experience this Scottish tradition at this year's Foothills Highland Games and Festival. Come see the pipe bands, performances, parades, and more on November 1 in Hendersonville's Jackson Park.
The festivities begin with Friday night's Calling of the Clans and Torchlight Ceremony at Jackson Park. This event is free and open to the public. Saturday's celebration promises to embrace the complete complement of traditional Scottish Highland games--the skirl of pipes, the sway of the tartans, the strength of the athletes, and a wide range of family entertainment with a children’s area, parade, women’s games and border collies, Celtic vendors and lots of good food. Take in Highland Dance and Country Dance demonstrations, or watch the athletic events. The Foothills Highland Games will also provide a fun filled area for "Wee Bairns" in attendance: The Children's Tent is headquarters for the children's games and activities, as well as being a safe haven for children. Staffed by volunteers, the Children's Tent will have a craft table, coloring and painting projects for children of various ages. Along with the Junior Athletics there will be a children's caber toss and haggis throw with ribbons awarded to the winners. Greenville.com is proud to be a sponsor of this year's Foothills Highland Games and Festival, and is celebrating the event with a ticket giveaway. Two passes to Saturday's festivities will be given away each week during the month of October in prepartation for the Games! Winners will be randomly selected; look for banners announcing the giveaway in a few days and enter for your chance to win!
