Greenville Chamber Funds Advanced Manufacturing Sponsorship

The Greenville Chamber today presented a check to the Greenville Tech Foundation to continue the funding of an advanced manufacturing scholarship at Greenville Tech. The award was made with a portion of the proceeds from the Chamber’s 12th Annual Industry Appreciation Tent Party held in September of this year. The event, sponsored by Recruiting Solutions, is held to honor those manufacturing firms that have chosen to locate and grow their businesses in the Upstate region.

“The Chamber leadership understands the value manufacturing continues to play not just in the Upstate region, but across the entire Palmetto State, “ said Hank Hyatt, Vice President, Economic Development, the Greenville Chamber. “Manufacturing plays a major role in driving innovation and in wealth creation. Aside from supporting manufacturing through public policy, workforce development and other initiatives, the Chamber sets aside one night a year to honor the contribution these firms make to our community.”

The funding will be directed to students at Greenville Tech who are interested in advanced manufacturing careers.

“Our business understands the need for highly-skilled individuals in manufacturing,” remarked Debbie Varner, President of Recruiting Solutions, the presenting sponsor for the Industry Appreciation Tent Party. “We hope that the funds generated for this scholarship will make it easier for someone to embark on a good-paying career in manufacturing.”

“2009 is only the second year during which proceeds from the tent party were allocated to such a scholarship. It is anticipated that this arrangement will continue and an endowed scholarship will eventually be created,” said Hyatt. “We look forward to having a portion of the funds awarded to a deserving student by the fall of 2010.”

The Greenville Chamber is the largest business organization in the Upstate, serving more than 2,200 members. The Chamber's mission is to build one of the premier business communities in the world by leading through collaboration, building community prosperity, being the voice of business and enhancing quality of life.
